One of the most expensive divorce settlements in history may have reached resolution, reports suggest.

Russian potash oligarch Dmitry Rybolovlev and ex-wife Elena announced an amicable financial settlement earlier this week.

The size of the settlement was not announced, but the former couple claimed it would bring to a close “all legal procedures launched in different jurisdictions“.

The couple originally married in 1991 and have two children. They separated in 2008 but could not agree on the size of their financial settlement as their contentious divorce proceedings continued. In May last year, Elena was awarded half her husband’s fortune by a court in Geneva where she lives: more than 4bn Swiss francs (£2.7bn). But Mr Rybolovlev launched an appeal and in June this year, the award was reduced to 564 million francs.

Before the apparent out of court settlement, the case was due to proceed to the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland, but this will no longer happen the Telegraph reports.

The 48 year-old made his fortune through a controlling share in a company supplying the fertiliser ingredient potash. He currently lives in Monaco.
